Viraj Kulkarni is a Chief Data Scientist at DeepTek, with a decade of experience in solving real-world problems using machine learning, neural networks, time series forecasting, natural language processing, computer vision, and mathematical optimization. He is comfortable working throughout the software stack from device drivers to web applications. Currently, he is leading the data science team at DeepTek to build deep learning models for radiology. Viraj has previously co-founded two technology companies and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Quantum Artificial Intelligence. Before joining DeepTek, Viraj was a Principal Data Scientist at deeptek, where he managed a team of data scientists and engineers developing AI models for diagnosing medical conditions from X-ray, MRI, and CT scans. He was responsible for recruiting, mentoring, developing, and leading the team. He loves managing real-world challenges such as lack of sufficient training data, noisy annotations, training distributions not matching those observed in practice, different classes overlapping with each other, etc. Other responsibilities include leading the effort for generating research publications, patents, and technical marketing content. Viraj has also worked as a Partner & CTO at CPC Analytics, a data-driven consulting firm that comprises an interdisciplinary network of technologists, economists, and public policy experts. They support Government and private sector clients in solving complex socio-politico-economic problems by extracting actionable insights from large and complex datasets. Their clients include Fortune 500 companies, public sector organizations, and inter-governmental agencies. Viraj holds a Master of Engineering in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science from Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Vishwakarma University, which is expected to be completed in 2023.
