Vishal Anand is a highly skilled Software Engineer III at Google with over 3 years of relevant experience. He is a competitive programmer with a passion for data structures, algorithms, and software development. Currently pursuing his Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Mandi, Vishal has participated in several programming contests such as ACM ICPC India Regionals: Kharagpur 2018, Kharagpur and Kolkata/Kanpur 2019, with the best rank of 16/160. He has also hosted competitive programming contests on platforms like Codechef and Codeforces. In addition to his programming skills, Vishal has held several leadership positions during his time at IIT Mandi. He was the ACM Students Chapter Coordinator in his 3rd year, Joint Sports Secretary in his 2nd year, and Cricket Secretary in his 1st year. Vishal's technical expertise extends beyond programming, as he has experience working with various technologies such as Neo4j, Redis, Javascript, PHP, and VueJS. Prior to joining Google, Vishal worked as a Software Engineer Intern at Tonichi Insatsu, where he worked on the backend of an application written in Vue.js and Laravel framework. He was responsible for accurately and speedily extracting various Japanese business card fields, a challenging task due to the variety of card formats. Vishal made full use of fullTextAnnotation from Text_Detection and Document_Text_Detection from Google OCR results and developed various algorithms to increase the accuracy of field extraction. He also used Redis to store and retrieve data instantly, and Neo4j for querying the relationships between older card fields for better and faster classification of current card fields. Vishal's contributions increased the overall card field extraction accuracy from 75% to 90% and speed up the overall app execution time from 1.5 sec to 0.3 sec per card. Vishal's technical expertise, leadership skills, and passion for programming make him an invaluable asset to any organization.
