Vivek Narayanan is a highly experienced Machine Learning professional currently working at Facebook. With over 9 years of relevant experience, Vivek has established himself as an expert in the field of ML, Reinforcement Learning, and NLP. At Facebook, Vivek is currently working on Instagram Reels recommendations and growth. In his previous role, he led the notifications machine learning team, where he designed and developed models, systems, and strategies to increase several million daily active users. He drove significant improvements in engagement and retention and helped grow products like stories. Vivek is also known for designing and building the first production applications of RL in Facebook to optimize for long term value. Later, he built an internal framework to support other product applications for reinforcement learning in growth, notifications, news feed, workplace, and marketplace. He proposed and started the comment assistant project for comment suggestions in the news feed based on NLP, which is responsible for around 5% of engagement in the app. Vivek has also led initiatives in Creation ML to drive content creation and sharing through ML with on-device ranking and creative effects like GANs. Prior to joining Facebook, Vivek worked as a Software Engineer at Zynga. Vivek holds a ScM degree in Computer Science from Brown University.
