Vivek Ramavajjala is an experienced Tech Lead/Manager with a proven track record of solving product problems with applied ML and engineering. He has led teams in developing and applying ML techniques in various domains such as making sales organizations more effective, improving compute resource utilization through efficient workload scheduling, improving Google Search relevance in low-resource languages, and clustering models to improve response quality in SmartReply. In addition to his expertise in ML applications, Vivek has also built large-scale infrastructure, including building a workload scheduling layer used for scheduling ML workloads at Alphabet, building a distributed framework for very large-scale semi-supervised machine learning, and building test infrastructure used to validate serving binaries for Display Ads. Currently, Vivek is a Staff Research Engineer and Tech Lead/Manager in the DeepMind Applied team, deploying ML research and techniques to solve Google product problems. He is working (and has worked) in building ML infrastructure and applying ML to a variety of domains, such as sales efficiency, scheduling optimization, speech synthesis, and more. Prior to his current role, Vivek worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Google on a large-scale machine learning platform, applying semi-supervised learning and deep learning to various products, including conversation understanding, image understanding, and search. He also explored ways of training deep networks with sparse training data and compressing models for on-device computation. Before that, he worked as a Software Engineer in Test Intern at Google, where he designed and implemented a log verification module that lets test writers programmatically check test outputs. Vivek holds an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California and a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is skilled in various tech stacks, including Research Scientist, ML, infra, Senior Software Engineer, test, Search, Supervised Learning, Software Engineer, Deep Learning, Integration, and more.
