William Dvorak is a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer at Wayfair with almost a decade of experience in the tech industry. He previously worked at Google as an L4 Software Engineer, where he was responsible for building the backend server for the new Zagat iPhone app. William is interested in companies that are improving finance for consumers and values impact over technological complexity. At Wayfair, William led a team of three in the broader group vision of decoupling internal customers from SQL Server direct connections. As owners of the Order database for the company, they dealt with load and scaling issues by moving to an API-based system. They allowed reads from a Kafka stream and allowed writes only with direct calls to their Flask-based API. William also implemented the first client of homegrown authn and authz in close coordination with platform teams. He demoed it to the broader group and had the platform team publish generic code for other team use. Before joining Wayfair, William worked at Adaptive Management as a Senior Software Engineer. There, he completed agile stories on backend and frontend to match mockups and new feature functionality. He also implemented Google Trends datasource for the product, allowing users to see search traffic for relevant terms. This required a schema migration, permissioning, scalability testing, and UX. William graduated from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering with a degree in Computer Engineering. He has a diverse tech stack that includes Python, Backend, Java, Flask, Kafka, Test, Search, Frontend, Docker, Selenium, Kubernetes, AWS, Keras, AI, QA, Javascript, Typescript, Tensorflow, DevOps, and GCP.
