Xianming Liu is a skilled Staff Applied Research Scientist with a focus on Perception at Cruise, a company that builds and explores innovative methods for perception. With 8.7 years of relevant experience, Xianming has a proven track record of success in the field of AI, Computer Vision, and Machine Learning. Prior to his current role, Xianming worked as a Senior Research Scientist in Applied AI Lab and R&D Lead at Horizon Robotics, Silicon Valley. He was responsible for leading the development of AI technology for autonomous driving and robotics. Before that, he worked at Facebook as a Research Scientist and Senior Research Scientist, Tech lead, focusing on Machine Learning and Computer Vision. He played a key role in building large scale personalized ranking systems and platforms to drive the growth of Marketplace Tab, BSG, and other channels. He also worked on large scale computer vision and machine learning problems in Connectivity Lab, resolving the challenge of satellite imagery analysis and spatial computing. Xianming created the first worldwide population density distribution dataset using computer vision based on high-resolution satellite images. Xianming holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He also completed a Visiting Student program in Computer Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Visiting Student program in Computer Science at National Tsing Hua University.
