Xuan Peng is a highly skilled computer systems Master's student at Carnegie Mellon University with a passion for solving real-world problems. He constructed the online customized Ads System of Dcar App, which obtained a 52% CTR and 50% CVR rise, bringing in millions of more income monthly. Xuan also refactored Dcar's online recommendation service, saving more than 50% CPU usage and 40% memory usage. He empowered the Feature Engineering by introducing Ack and Streaming Feature mechanisms to facilitate real-time model training, which gained 5% stay time growth per user as shown in the A/B test. Moreover, Xuan solved long-standing hidden bugs and abnormal behaviors, improving the service stability (SLA) from 99% to 99.99%. Xuan also worked as a Backend Software Engineer Intern at Bytedance, where he designed and built a robust and high-performance web service topology using Golang and Thrift. He optimized the average latency of one major API from 300ms to 80ms by prefetching and caching data based on the user's profile and browsing history. Xuan also exploited asynchronous communication based on Kafka and delivered a 2-way IM forwarding system between Douyin (TikTok in Mainland China, near 1 billion users) and Xingfuli, which brought in a 30% increase in the number of leads.
