Yang Zhao is a highly experienced Head of Rider Engineering at Lime, currently leading the City & Rider Engineering team. With over 11 years of relevant experience, he is a seasoned professional in the field of software engineering and has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. Yang has a Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, where he honed his skills and gained a deep understanding of the field. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) from Zhejiang University, where he began his journey in the world of engineering. Previously, Yang worked as an Engineering Manager at Uber, where he managed two teams within Uber's core marketplace. He was responsible for improving marketplace metrics by incorporating rider and driver intent into matching decisions while weighing the tradeoffs between short-term efficiency gains and long-term sentiment impact. He also worked on the Shared Rides Experiences team, which aimed to unlock the potential of shared cities by developing a turnkey, shared, mass transportation system of intelligently distributed passenger seats. Before Uber, Yang worked as a Software Engineer at Twitter, where he worked on the Twitter Translation Center and built end-to-end internationalization and localization solutions for Periscope iOS and android. He also improved the pipeline of i18n and l10n process of Twitter products, including string extraction and translation publish. Yang was also involved in several hackweek projects, including NLU, a natural language processing-based internal search tool within Twitter, and TrendMap, a project about displaying Twitter trends in different geo-locations on iOS devices using MapKit. Yang is well-versed in various tech stacks, including iOS, Objective-c, NLU, HDFS, NLP, MySQL, Search, Scala, Java, and Android. He is a senior software engineer with a passion for driving innovation and delivering high-quality products. Yang is currently open to new opportunities and is actively hiring for his team at Lime.
