Yangqing Jia is a highly accomplished research and engineering leader with over 14 years of relevant experience in AI, systems, products, and services. Currently serving as the Vice President of Alibaba Group, he leads the company's AI and Big Data organization, providing advanced AI systems and services combined with conventional big data wisdom to serve every cloud client. His team supports large-scale applications both inside the company and on Aliyun, the number one cloud provider in China and a global market leader. Prior to joining Alibaba, Yangqing served as the Director of Facebook AI, where he led a team of talented researchers and engineers to build Facebook's large-scale AI platform across the board. He created, grew, and spun off multiple teams that are now known collectively as Facebook AI Infrastructure. As part of his duty, he created and led the development of Caffe2, one of the fastest deep learning solutions, delivering real-time AI in every single Facebook app in the world. He also initiated and led other influential AI solutions in the industry, such as the first prototype of an open model format, later released as ONNX, together with Microsoft, Amazon, and many hardware vendors. Before Facebook, Yangqing worked as a Research Scientist at Google Brain, conducting state-of-the-art deep learning research and engineering. He was part of the ImageNet 2014 winning entry and the initiator of Mobile deep learning. He also participated in and consulted for multiple product areas using deep learning and led multiple open-sourcing efforts for the research community. Yangqing holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in Automation, and a Master's degree in Control Science and Engineering from Tsinghua University. His tech stack includes AI, Big Data, Deep Learning, Spark, Pytorch, Senior Software Engineer, Computer Vision, NLP, Search, infra, TensorFlow, and Mobile. Yangqing's work has been featured in multiple technical reports, and he is highly regarded in the AI community for his contributions to the field.
